MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny won its 13th match of the season, sweeping Penn State Shenango, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-20) in nonconference play in Mullen Arena.
With the victory, the Gators improve to 13-4 on the season and will have a quick turnaround before returning to action, traveling to Bethany (W. Va.) for a 7:30 p.m. match tomorrow night, Friday, Oct. 8.
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) led all players with nine kills, while hitting at a .294 clip.
India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson),
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) and
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) followed with seven, six and four kills, respectively.
Leah Ungashick (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) and
Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) were the primary directors of the offense, handing out 13 and nine assists. The Gators' service was strong, recording 14 aces, led by four apiece from Wilson and
Morgan Goodlet (Akron, Ohio/Coventry).
On the defensive side, 12 Gators recorded at least one dig, paced by
Cetta Panza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) with six.
Kate Christie (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) and Ungashick each tallied five digs. At the net, Javes turned away six blocks, while McCruter had four and Robare turned in three.
As a team, Allegheny hit .238 overall, including .346 and .360 in the first two sets.
