MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny field hockey team won its fourth match in the last five times out with an 8-0 nonconference victory over Medaille on the Robertson Blue Turf.
The Gators started fast and furious in the first quarter, finding the back of the cage five times in the period.
Ramsay Smith (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) struck first off a penalty corner insert by
Kinsley Greenlaw (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) just 1:23 into play.
Debbie Nalesnik (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) made it 2-0 just under five minutes later when she scored on a drive off a corner insert by Greenlaw that was stick stopped by Smith and redirected to Nalesnik.
Another 4:40 elapsed before
Maya Francisco (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day School) completed the pass from
Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township). O'Connor figured into the final two tallies of the half as well, recording an unassisted goal with 3:24 remaining and then assisting on
Kelsey Anderson's (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) redirect out of mid-air with 2:05 left.
The two teams played a scoreless second quarter, before Allegheny started its offense back up in the third. In the 31st minute,
Emma Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) pushed in her first career goal after corralling a shot off the stick of
Hannah Hinterleiter (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Conneaut Area), before Nalesnik registered her second goal of the match three minutes into the second half with Smith receiving the helper. Early in the 43rd minute, Francisco added another marker, with another assist going to Smith, to make the margin 8-0.
Allegheny set multiple single-game records on the day, including goals in a game (8), shots (40) and shots on goal (26). Additionally, the defense, anchored by
Apurva Kannu (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley),
Molly Miller (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and
Hannah Sharp (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) did not yield a shot for the third time in program history.
Heather Amancio (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) earned her first win of the season in goal, covering the cage for the first 30:00.
Meredythe Baird (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) played the final 30:00.
