MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny field hockey team continued North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play as its hosted Wooster in its penultimate match of the season Tuesday evening (Oct. 26).
Bella Cowen (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Day School) got the Gators on the board just eight minutes in, scoring off a pass from
Kelsey Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton).
After a scoreless second quarter, the Gators scored twice in the third. Cowen scored her second goal of the game off a scrum in front of the net, receiving help from
Becca Winton (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle). Not long after Cowen's second goal,
Ramsay Smith (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) scored off a pass
Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township). Wooster responded minutes later with their first goal to cut the lead to 3-1.
Wooster narrowed the gap to 3-2 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Gators turned away the Scots for the rest of the period to hold on for the conference victory.
Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) made six saves in securing her fifth win of the season, and the eighth for the team, which moves to an even 8-8 with one match to go in just its second season competing against outside competition (the 2020 campaign was canceled due to COVID-19).
The Gators conclude the 2021 season Saturday (Oct. 30) as they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for a noon NCAC matchup.
