MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny volleyball team defeated Kenyon, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-19), for its second consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory on Saturday (Oct. 2).
The win improves the Gators' record to 12-4, 2-2 NCAC on the season. The victory marks the first NCAC sweep for Allegheny since 2014 and the first time the program has posted back-to-back league wins since 2011.
The Gators never looked back after what was originally appeared to be a close second set. Allegheny held a 17-16 lead before going on an 8-0 run to finish the frame. The Gators ended up scoring 15 consecutive points as they also had a 7-0 start in the final set.
While accumulating 15 straight points,
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) recorded three kills, whereas
Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) registered two kills during this span. Overall, Wilson and Crum paced the Gators with 10 and nine kills respectively.
Additional offensive contributors included
Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic), who had 17 assists, and
Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area), who had four aces.
Defensively,
Kate Christie (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) led Allegheny with 11 digs. The Gators had two others with at least five digs apiece in D'Andrea and
Taylor Besch (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) who contributed eight and six digs, respectively.
Furthermore,
India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson),
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek), and
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) picked up at least two blocks each. McCruter led the way with two solo, and one assisted block.
Allegheny will host a nonconference match against Penn State Shenango at 7 pm on Thursday, Oct. 7.
