BUTLER, Pa. -- Allegheny won with pitching and defense in game one, and timely hitting in game two to earn a doubleheader sweep against Ithaca (N.Y.) at Pullman Park, taking the opener, 2-1, before securing an 11-8 win in the nightcap.
Andrew Vincent (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) finished 3-for-5 with a double, two-run homer, and 4 RBI in game two.
Dalton DuBois (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) and
Isaiah Lucas (Butler, Pa./Butler) each had three hits, with DuBois breaking an 8-8 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a solo homer and eventual game-winning run.Â
Camden Mattocks (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) earned the first win of his career in relief in the second contest, working 2.0 innings and giving up two runs with a strikeout and walk.
Nick Tarasi (Gibsonia, Pa./Shady Side Academy) secured the victory by pitching a perfect ninth and earning his second save of the day.
In the opener,
Conor Deasy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) earned his first collegiate victory by working the first 7.0 innings and surrendering three hits, and one run with six strikeouts.
Nolan Thompson (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) worked the next 1.2 scoreless before giving way for Tarasi to get the final out on the ground to seal the win.
Both Gator runs came within three batters in the bottom of the fourth, when
Brett Heckert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) singled with one out and scored when
Luke Chutko (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) followed that with an RBI double. Vincent then brought Chutko in with an RBI single to give the Gators a 2-0 lead.
Allegheny is scheduled to travel to Grove City for a single, nine-inning game at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11.
