HIRAM, Ohio - The Allegheny women's basketball team defeated Hiram, 95-77, on Wednesday (Jan. 15) in a road North Coast Athletic Conference showdown.
The 95 points for the Gators are their most since November 20 of last year when they defeated Washington & Jefferson 96-90 in overtime. It is the most in a regulation game since they defeated Chatham 101-65 on November 17, 2015. The 95 points are also the most in a conference matchup since 2004-05 as Allegheny defeated Oberlin 99-74.
With the win, Allegheny is now 7-8 on the year and 3-3 in NCAC play, while Hiram drops to 4-11 and 1-5 in conference action.
Zoe Youdell (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) led the Gators with her first collegiate double-double as she scored 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting and pulled in 13 boards. The junior duo of
Rylee Donovan (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) and
Julianna Skowron (Sewickley, Pa./Oakland Catholic) tallied 19 points, as Donovan tied her season-high with four three-pointers and Skowron sunk nine of her 13 shots. Donovan also earned nine rebounds while Skowron grabbed seven.
Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) also tallied seven boards and rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points.
As a team, the Gators scored 20 points off turnovers, including 12 on the fastbreak. They also grabbed 19 offensive rebounds, leading to 22 second-chance points. Beside Hiram leading twice for a few moments at the start of the second period, the Gators controlled the pace of play, as they either outscored or scored the same amount as Hiram each period, leading to the 18-point victory.
The Gators are back in action for a second consecutive road conference game at Dension on Saturday (Jan. 18), slated for 1:00 p.m.
