ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team fell in a hard fought 1-0 game against Virginia Wesleyan Sunday (Sept. 8) in Annville, Pa.
For the second straight game, the Gators held their opponents off the scoreboard in the opening quarter. The Gator goalies made a combined six saves in the second half.
The Marlins goal came on a breakaway early in the second quarter.
In the final frame,
Kelsey Anderson (Rochester N.Y./Brighton) recorded the team's first shot on goal in their inaugural season.
Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) made six saves in net for the second game this season.
Heather Amancio (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) made a pair of stops.
Megan Kramp (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) added a defensive save.
Zoey Dudek (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Faythe Schulte (Warwick, R.I./Rocky Hill) also tallied shots in the game.
The Gators return to action Saturday (Sept. 14) when they will play their inaugural home game against NCAC foe DePauw in a game that will not count towards the conference standings.
