MEADVILLE, Pa. -- In yet another milestone checked off by the Allegheny Field Hockey program, and a piece of history for Allegheny College, the Gators played the inaugural home game for the team on the newly installed Blue Turf.

In its first year of existence, Allegheny opened up with three matches on the road before welcoming DePauw for the first varsity field hockey match played on the Allegheny College campus. Joining the teams at midfield for the coin toss before the match were honorary co-captain Bruce Hunter '77, who was instrumental in field hockey becoming a varsity sport, and former administrator Maureen Hunter Hager, a 2009 Hall of Fame inductee and long-time advocate of women's athletics at the College.

The defense was strong for the home team despite the 4-0 final score in favor of DePauw, as the Gators' goalies each made six saves in 30 minutes of action, while the field players combined for six defensive saves, the most in a single match by one team among all divisions of NCAA field hockey thus far in 2019. Junior Kierstin Faw (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) made three d-saves, while freshman Megan Kramp (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) stepped up for two defensive saves and classmate Emma Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) added one of her own. Rookies Hallie Rieger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) and Heather Amancio (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) split time in cage with Rieger playing the first and third periods and Amancio anchoring the line in the second and fourth.

Both of Allegheny's shots were on goal in the contest as Vivian Super (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and Kinsley Greenlaw (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) picked up one apiece.

The Blue & Gold will have a week off before traveling to Springfield, Ohio for a nonconference match against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe Wittenberg. The match at 1:30 pm on Saturday, Sept. 21, does not count toward the conference standings due to the league's 1.5 round robin schedule.
