Gators take first set but fall to Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- In what was originally scheduled to be the 2019 home opener for the Allegheny volleyball team, the Gators dropped a 3-1 non-conference decision at Geneva College Wednesday (Sept. 4).

Allegheny jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a 25-22 victory in the first set, but dropped the next three by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 26-24. With the loss, the Gators slip to 2-3 on the season after a 2-2 showing at the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge.

Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) led the Gator offense with 10 kills, Tamara Babic (Belgrade, Serbia/Third Belgrade) followed with nine, and Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Third Belgrade) along with Grace Lengauer (Avella, Pa./Avella) registered eight kills apiece. Raelynn Dorscheid (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) and Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) helped the Allegheny attack with 21 and 16 assists, respectfully.

Defensively, Rebecca MacQuarrie (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBouef) anchored the team with a match-high 23 digs. D'Andrea tallied 17, and Taylor Besch (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) rounded out the double-digit defenders with 10.

Next for the Blue & Gold will be the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC)/Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Crossover Friday-Saturday, Sept. 6-7, at Aim High Sports in Lansing, Mich.
