Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Jeremy Smith

Field hockey tops Ferrum 4-0 for first win in program history

MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny field hockey team continued its season of firsts Sunday (Sept. 29), crossing a big one off the list when it decisively defeated Ferrum, 4-0, for the first win in program history.

Vivian Super (Granville, Ohio/Granville) led the Gators with a pair of goals and an assist.  Faythe Schulte (Warwick, R.I./Rocky Hill) had a goal and an assist as she netted the Gators first home goal on the Blue Turf.  Megan Kramp (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) tallied the fourth goal for the Gators while Kelsey Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and Kinsley Greenlaw (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) had assists.

The Gators controlled the flow of the game in the first quarter, keeping the ball in their offensive end.  In all, they tallied nine shots and five penalty corners in the opening frame, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Just over a minute into the second quarter, the offensive pressure paid off for the Gators as Schulte found pay dirt off a feed from Super to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.  A little more than three minutes later, Anderson connected on a pass to Super, who was able to find the back of the net to make it 2-0.  Minutes later, Super scored again, as this time Greenlaw found her through Panther defenders, making it 3-0 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Gators scored their fourth and final goal of the game early in the fourth as Kramp scored right in front of the net off an assist from Schulte.

Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) and Heather Amancio (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) combined for the program's first shutout in net.  Amancio picked up the decision as she made two stops in the fourth quarter.  Reiger made a save in the third.

In addition to her goal, Kramp made a defensive save late in the game to preserve the shutout.

The Gators outshot their Panther counterparts 21-5 while earning nine penalty corners to Ferrum's four.

Allegheny returns to action Saturday (Oct. 5) as they compete in their first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game against Kenyon.
