MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's tennis team hosted the Nancy and Harvey Heath Gator Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 28). The Gators defeated Ohio Northern (6-3) and Fairmont State (5-2) in the three-team tournament.
In doubles,
Katherine Marks (Argyle, Texas/Liberty Christian) and
Gaby DeLeon (Weatherford, Texas/Weatherford) won their match handedly against Ohio Northern by a score of 8-0.
Amanda Ress Liere (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) and
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic) won both of their doubles matches by scores of 8-3 and 8-4.
Miharu Koh (Tokyo, Japan/Monta Vista (Calif.)) and
Taylor Hayes (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) lost a close match against the Klondikes in a tiebreaker, before winning 8-1 against the Falcons.
For singles play, Marks and DeLeon earned victories against Ohio Northern by scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-3, respectfully. Ress Liere defeated both her opponents with sets of 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, and 6-0. Swan was victorious in both of her matches as well (7-5, 6-3, 6-2. 6-0) while Koh dropped her first match but won her second with little problem, by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
The Gators wrap up their fall season on Monday (Sept. 30) when they host Houghton at 4:30 p.m.
