ERIE, Pa.—The Allegheny volleyball team returned to the road Thursday (Sept. 19) as they fell in nonconference play at Penn State Behrend, 3-0, in Erie.
The Lions won the sets 28-26, 25-23 and 25-12.
Behrend accumulated a 20-12 lead in the opening set before the Gators stormed back with a 10-4 run to tie the set at 24. The Gators earned a set point at 26-25 after a
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) ace, but the Lions took the ensuing three points to win the set 28-26.
The teams were evenly matched throughout the majority of the second set, until a 4-0 Behrend run gave them a 23-19 lead. The Gators staved off three set points before the Lions won the set 25-23.
The Lions carried that momentum into the third set where the sealed the match with a 25-12 win.
Wilson led the Gators with seven kills.
Alysha Crowther (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) and
Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) had six kills apiece.
Raelynn Dorscheid (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) had a team-high 11 assists and two aces.
Rebecca MacQuarrie (Waterford, Pa./Fort Loboeuf) had a match-high 23 digs. Dorscheid and
Elizabeth Debich (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) had seven digs apiece.
The Gators return to Meadville Saturday (Sept. 21) when they host John Carroll and Pitt Greensburg in a tri-match.
