MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny volleyball team fell in a five-set match against Pitt Bradford Tuesday (Sept. 17) in Meadville.
The Panthers picked up the win with set scores of 14-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-12.
The Gators got off to a hot start in the opening set, scoring the opening eight points en route to a 25-14 set win. The momentum carried over to the second set as Allegheny was able to stymie a late Panther rally to move ahead 2-0 in the match.
Pitt Bradford was able to tie up the match with a 25-9 win in the third set, and 25-17 win in the fourth set, forcing a fifth set.
After trading points early in the fifth set, the Gators took a 7-4 lead. However, the Panthers rattled off four straight points to gain an 8-7 advantage. Tied at nine, the Panthers scored three straight points to move ahead, 12-9. The Panthers rode that advantage down the final stretch as they took the set 15-12, securing the match win.
Tamara Babic (Belgrade, Serbia/Third Belgrade) and
Elizabeth Debich (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) led the Gators with nine kills apiece.
Alysha Crowther (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) added seven kills.
Raelynn Dorscheid (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) and
Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) had 15 assists.
Rebecca MacQuarrie (Waterford, Pa./Fort Leboeuf) had a career-high 34 digs. D'Andrea added 19 while Debich tallied 15. Crowther totaled six blocks.
The Gators are on the road Thursday (Sept. 19) when they travel north to Penn State Behrend for a nonconference match.
