Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Reid's OT heroics lift Gators past Tartans for first time since 2011

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny's men soccer team beat Carnegie Melon 1-0 thanks to a game-winning overtime goal in the 94th minute. This win is the first time the Gators have beaten the Tartans for the first time since September 17, 2011.

The Gators earned a corner halfway through the first overtime period. Danny Reid (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) short passed the set piece to Shane Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) on the left corner of the box. Lisman then tapped it back to Reid who planted a looping shot over the left shoulder of the keeper and into the back of the net for the win.

In the first half, Jorge Olan (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) nearly tickled the twine in the 20th minute but his shot ricocheted off the crossbar.

Jack Barron-Sluga (Guelph, Ont./Appleby College) made multiple game-saving stops on his way to 10 total saves, with nine occurring in the second half or overtime.

Reid and Eddie Opalko (Springdale, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) with two shots, both on goal. Matt Massucci (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) also directed two balls towards goal. Six other Gators took shots, leading to Allegheny's 13 total.

Coach Angelo Panzetta had this to say after the game. "Danny and Shane realized they had their backs to the play, and putting the free kick in quickly gave Danny the time he needed to get a shot off. As we had a solid 90 minutes our last time out, we played another strong 90 minutes plus in the match tonight and finally found a way to finish the game off the way we wanted to."

The Gators return to the field as they travel to Fredonia at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (September 21).
