FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Allegheny men's soccer team fell to Fredonia by a score of 3-2 on Saturday (Sept. 21) in a nonconference showdown.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore
Jacob LeSane (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) put the Gators on the board in the 53rd minute as he netted his first goal of the 2019 campaign. Classmate
Alex Riel (Bethesda, Md./Landon) provided the setup pass for the assist.
Fredonia quickly tied the score and took a lead of its own as the Blue Devils scored two goals in thirty seconds during the 58th and 59th minutes. Fredonia then tallied what would become the game-winning goal in the 76th minute.
Allegheny made a late push as
Evan Rumble (Youngstown, Ohio/Poland Seminary) notched the Gators second goal in the 83rd minute on another assist by Riel, but the comeback would fall short as the game ended 3-2.
Allegheny only took four shots, but they were effective with those tries. Besides the two goal scorers, Reil took one shot and
Keegan Cassidy (Commack, N.Y./Commack) tallied the other.
Nick Ferreira (Chester, N.Y./Warwick Valley) was back in goal for the Gators and made five saves. Two of the saves were on penalty kicks in the first half.
