MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team swept a pair of matches on day two of the Allegheny Invitational Saturday (Sept. 14).
The Gators defeated North Carolina Wesleyan in straight sets in their first game before besting Thiel in four sets to close the invitational.
Allegheny 3, North Carolina Wesleyan 0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-18)
Alysha Crowther (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) led the Gator attack in the victory over the Battling Bishops with ten kills on 18 total attacks.
Elizabeth Debich (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) finished with nine kills while
Grace Lengauer (Avella, Pa./Avella) tallied eight.
Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) had 18 assists while
Raelynn Dorscheid (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) had 13.
Taylor Besch (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and
Rebecca MacQuarrie (Waterford, Pa./Fort Leboeuf) had four service aces each.
MacQuarrie also led the way for the Gator defense with 20 digs. Besch contributed 15 while D'Andrea was also in double digits with 11. Crowther had five total blocks (three solo).
Allegheny 3, Thiel 1 (25-11, 17-25, 25-17, 25-19)
After the Gators firmly won the opening set, Thiel tied the match with a second set win. Allegheny bounced back in the third set and closed out the match in four sets.
Tamara Babic (Belgrade, Serbia/Third Belgrade) led Allegheny with a career-high 13 kills. Crowther hit double digits in kills for the second time on the day as she finished with 12. Debich added eight kills. D'Andrea had a season-high 30 assists.
MacQuarrie also achieved a career-high with 31 digs. D'Andrea had 12 digs while Debich and Besch had 11 each. Crowther also added seven total blocks (four solo).
The Gators are back in Meadville Tuesday (Sept. 17) when they host the University of Pittsburgh Bradford in a non-conference match.
