MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie with Grove City in its home opener on Saturday (Sept. 14).
This tie is the second of the season for the Gators, moving them to 2-1-2 for the 2019 campaign, while Grove City goes to 1-3-1.
The two teams had plenty of chances throughout the game, with a total of 35 shots being taken. 21 of which were tallied by Allegheny and 12 of those shots went on target.Â
Shannon McGuinn (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) led the team with six shots, four-on-goal, followed by
Emily Orr (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) with four shots, all on target.
Taylor Renk (Cranberry Township, Pa./Oakland Catholic) took three shots and five other Gators supplied the remaining eight shots.
One of Allegheny's biggest chances of the game came in the 58th minute as Orr lined up from the penalty stripe looking to break the scoreless tie, but was denied by the diving Grove City keeper. Also twice during the game, shots caromed off the crossbar, denying the Gators.
Maya Hackman (Derry, Pa/Derry Area) served as the Allegheny keeper and made four saves, three of which were game-saving stops in overtime.
The Gators are back on the field this Wednesday (Sept. 18) at 7:00 p.m. against John Carroll in nonconference action. This game will be the second of a five-game home stand.
