Allegheny strands 15 in nonconference loss to Behrend

ERIE, Pa. -- Allegheny left 15 runners on base as it dropped a 7-4 nonconference game at Penn State Behrend.

With the loss, the Gators slip below .500 for the first time since March 21 at 10-11 overall. Behrend improves to 14-7 on the season.

RBI singles by Luke Chutko (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), Ethan Pawlak (Chardon, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and Vincent Carone (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings, respectively, as well as a bases-loaded walk to Ben Kosbie (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) in the seventh inning accounted for Allegheny's offensive output on the day.

Four Gators had multi-hit games: Chutko (2-3, RBI), Kosbie (2-4, RBI), Tommy Cannon (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) (2-4, BB, R) and Brett Heckert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) (2-5).

Nick Tarasi (Gibsonia, Pa./Shady Side Academy) suffered the loss in his first start and decision of the season, giving up four hits and four runs in 3.0 innings, while walking four and striking out one. Justin Brucker (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Cam Karnik (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele) finished the game in relief for the Gators with Brucker working 1.2 innings and giving up four hits and two runs (one earned) and Karnik going the final 3.1 innings and just allowing two hits and one run.

Allegheny will travel to Fredonia, N.Y. for another midweek, nonconference game against Fredonia State. First pitch on Wednesday, April 10 is set for 3 p.m.
