DePauw Takes Two From Gators in Indiana

GREENCASTLE, Ind.—The Allegheny College softball team was unable to overcome DePauw University as they fell in both ends of a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) doubleheader Saturday (April 6).

The Tigers won game one 12-4 in five innings, and game two 6-0.

With the wins, DePauw improved to 13-9 overall and 4-0 in NCAC play, while the Gators fall to 7-13 and 2-2 in NCAC play.

Game One – DePauw 12, Allegheny 4 (5 innings)

The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the first before a two run third inning put the Gators in front.  DePauw regained the lead by plating three in the bottom of the frame.  After a Gator run in the fourth, the Tigers scored six runs in the bottom of the inning.  In the fifth, the Gators were able to cut the lead to 10-4, but a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame secured the win for DePauw.

Samantha Valera (Chicago, Ill./Lane Technical) led the Gators with a pair of hits, a RBI and a run scored.  Kyleigh Cason (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E Kellam) had a RBI hit.  Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) and Jessica Gordon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) had a hit and a run apiece, while Emily Cramer (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) also tallied a hit.  Delaney Harrison-Peters (Silver Spring, Md./Walter Johnson) scored a run as a pinch runner.

Game Two – DePauw 6, Allegheny 2

Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first two innings.  DePauw got on the board with one run in the bottom of the third.  They added two more in the fourth, and three in the fifth.  The Tigers continued to hold the Gator offense at bay as they completed the sweep.

Kelly Lafferty (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) and Cason recorded hits for the Gators.  Kala Mahen (Mercer, Pa./Lakeview) struck out four batters

The Gators are back in action Tuesday (April 9) for a home doubleheader against Hiram College.
