Gators Drop NCAC Game at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio—The Allegheny College women's lacrosse team dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game to Oberlin College, 18-10, Wednesday (April 10) on the road.
 
The Yeowomen scored the opening three goals before Alex Zielinski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored on a free-position shot.  Oberlin pushed their lead to 7-1 before Brenna Lawler (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph) broke up the run of an assist from Mary Allen (Victor, N.Y./Victor).  The Oberlin lead grew to 10-2 before goals from Zielinski and Evi Malagise (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) cut the deficit to 12-4 at the half. 
 
In the second half, each team found the back of the net six times.  Zielinski scored three in the second half, while Allen had two and Lawler added one.
 
Zielinski finished the game with five goals.  Lawler and Allen had three points apiece on two goals and an assist.  Malagise had a goal while Sarah Basden (Malibu, Calif./Thousand Oaks) and Rhiannon King (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) had assists. 
 
Gretchen Barbera (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) led the Gator defenders with four groundballs and three caused turnovers.  Allen and Rachel Donlan (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) had two groundballs and two caused turnovers apiece.  Allen also had seven draw controls. Steph Shakespeare (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township) made 10 saves in net.

With the loss, the Gators fell to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in NCAC play, while the Yeowomen improved to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in NCAC play.
 
Allegheny returns to action Saturday (April 13) when they host Ohio Wesleyan University on senior day in NCAC play.
