MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The 2019 home opener for the Allegheny women's lacrosse team saw the Gators drop a 16-1 decision against John Carroll.
With the loss, Allegheny drops to 2-5 overall, while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-2.
Brenna Lawler (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) found the back of the net for the Gators off a pass from
Evi Malagise (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk). Lawler and Malagise were Allegheny's top shot-recorders with five and four of the Blue & Gold's 14, respectively.
Gretchen Barbera (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) led all players with five ground balls, while
Laurence Busque (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Twp.) picked up four GBs and caused a game-best five turnovers. Starting goalkeeper
Steph Shakespeare (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township) had three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while
Alex Grob (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) had four of Allegheny's nine draw controls.
Shakespeare made five saves in the first half, while
Mo Pittser (Erie, Colo./Niwot) turned away three shots and allowed just four goals in the second period.
Allegheny will open North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play at Kenyon on Saturday, March 30. The opening draw is set for 12 p.m. in Gambier, Ohio.
