MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College women's tennis team opened the home portion of their 2019 schedule in a non-conference game against St. Vincent College Monday (March 25).
The Gators picked up the win 9-0.
The first doubles team of
Amanda Ress Liere and
Miharu Koh rolled to victory. Facing Maura Skelley and Lisa Marthens, the Gator duo were first off the court, winning 8-1.
Second doubles was the next match off the court. After a close start,
Savannah Gray and
Hannah Schaffer finished strong, defeating Jessica Hartner and Kate Palko 8-2.
The third doubles match went back-and-forth throughout. However,
Candace Burkhammer and
Satori Chin came on strong late as they picked up an 8-6 win against Livia Wentworth and Lauren Hartner, completing the doubles sweep.
Ress Liere was also first off the court in singles competition. Ress Liere faced Skelley once again, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win. The win marked the sixth straight singles victory for the junior.
Koh also won her second match of the night in singles competition. In the second flight against Marthens, Koh took the opening set 6-2. The second set was closer, but Koh prevailed with a 6-4 win to clinch the match for the Gators.
At third singles, Gray took on Palko. After winning the opening set 6-2, Gray closed the match with a clean 6-0 sweep in the second set.
At fifth singles, Burkhammer surrendered only one game as she defeated Lauren Hartner 6-0, 6-1.
Schaffer collected a singles win in the fourth flight, defeating Wentworth by a 6-4, 6-2 mark.
Chin concluded the sweep for the Gators at sixth singles, as she defeated Jessica Hartner 6-0, 6-2.
The Gators are back at home Saturday (March 30) when they host Penn State Behrend at 11 a.m.
