HILTON HEAD, S.C.—The Allegheny College tennis team picked up a 5-4 victory over Messiah College Monday (March 18) in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Gators took a 2-1 lead in the match following the doubles flights. At first doubles,
Amanda Ress Liere and
Miharu Koh defeated Amanda Adams and Rebekah Adams 8-4. After Messiah picked up a win at third doubles, the Gators made up the point at second doubles. The Gator duo of
Savannah Gray and
Hannah Schaffer collected an 8-4 win over Emily Wichert and Robin Schwarzmann.
Ress Liere picked up her second win of the day as she was the first off the court in singles action. In the first flight, she defeated Wichert 6-1, 6-0 to give the Gators a 3-1 lead. The Falcons then picked up wins at fourth and second singles to tie the match at three apiece.
Savannah Gray put the Gators a match away from the win with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Gaby Brooks at third singles. However, Messiah responded with a win at fifth singles to tie the match once more.
It came down to the sixth singles match between
Satori Chin and Schwartzmann. Chin was able to break in the first set to take it 6-4. She then gained control of the momentum as she took the second set 6-1 to seal the Gator victory.
The Gators are back in action Wednesday (March 20) as they take on Edgewood College.
