HILTON HEAD, S.C.—The Allegheny College lacrosse team fell to Centre College 17-7 to open their 2019 spring break games in Hilton Head, S.C.
Centre got on the board first just two minutes in, but
Evi Malagise was quick to answer for the Gators, finding the back of the net on a free-position shot. The Colonels netted the next two goals before
Taylor Vigneri cut the lead to one off an assist from
Alex Grob.
Centre Started to gain control of the momentum as they went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-2 lead.
Devin Gaffney broke up the run on a goal assisted by
Sarah Basden.
Mary Allen then scored to make it 7-4. The Colonels added a pair of goals before Allegheny answered with a pair of their own. Allen scored both of those goals, with
Brenna Lawler assisting on the first. Centre added one more goal before the half to take a 10-6 lead into the half.
Centre scored the first three goals of the second half to push their lead to 14-6. Malagise scored her second goal of the game to cut it to 14-7, but Centre held the Gators off the board while tacking on three more to pick up the 17-7 win.
Allen led the Gators with three goals, to go with five draw controls. Malagise had a pair of goals while Vigneri and Gaffney had one apiece. Basden, Grob and Lawler had assists.
Laurence Busque had five groundballs and six draw controls.
Mo Pittser made 10 saves in net.
The Gators are back in action Wednesday (March) against Hope.
