GRANVILLE, Ohio --
Delaney Arbore returned from a three-game hiatus and dropped 27 points, but it wasn't enough as the Allegheny women's basketball team dropped a 66-54 decision at Denison.
Even with the loss, the Gators remain in postseason contention with a 2-12 record in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
Arbore's 27 points were the second most the senior has scored in a game this season, one shy of her 28 points at Washington & Jefferson in November. It marked the sixth time this year that the most recent 1,000-point scorer for the Allegheny women's team topped 20 points. Against the Big Red, Arbore connected on 9-of-28 shots, which represent the third-most shot attempts in a game by a Gator, and most since 1996. She also finished 4-of-10 from three-point range, matching her season high for makes from long range. She added seven rebounds and three assists in her return.
Zoe Soilis added nine points, with
Julianna Skowron scoring six and
Chloe Rabold and
Brooke Smith each turning in five points. Rabold (six) and Smith (five) ranked second and third on the team, respectively, in rebounding as well.
Allegheny held a 27-24 lead at halftime thanks to a 16-12 advantage in the second quarter. The Gators held the Big Red to just 29.4 percent (10-of-31) shooting in the first half before being outscored, 42-27, in the second half.
Allegheny heads into the final week of the regular season and will travel to Hiram for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday, Feb. 13 before hosting Kenyon at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 for Senior Day.
