HIRAM, Ohio—A fourth quarter surge by Hiram College pushed the Terriers past the Allegheny College women's basketball team, 87-69, Wednesday (Feb. 13).
The Terriers jumped out to a 9-2 lead early on, but a Gator run eventually tied the game at 13 with three minutes to play in the first. A minute later, the Gators took the lead at 17-15, but the Terriers made up the gap as the teams were even at 21 going into the second.
Early in the second, the Terriers took a five-point lead, but a 6-0 Gator run gave them the lead at 27-26. The back-and-forth play continued as the Gators eventually built a 36-32 lead with four minutes to play in the opening half. Late in the half, the Terriers climbed back into it as they took a 42-41 lead into the locker room.
The Terriers pushed their lead to five early in the third quarter. The back-and-forth play then resumed as the lead stayed around five. Late in the quarter, the Terriers were able to increase the lead to nine, but a
Delaney Arbore three at the buzzer made it a 65-59 game going into the fourth.
The Hiram lead grew to ten 90 seconds into the fourth quarter. The Gators were unable to regain their footing as the Terriers limited the Gators' offensive chances as they wrapped up the game with an 87-69 win.
Arbore ended the game with a team-high 22 points.
Zoe Soilis went for 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Bailey Matrascia netted 10 points off the bench.
Julianna Skowron had eight points and seven rebounds while
Chloe Rabold and
Brooke Smith had seven points apiece.
The Gators shot 40.3% (27-of-67) from the floor for the game.
Allegheny will wrap-up the regular season at home Saturday (Feb. 16) as they play host to Kenyon College.
