HOUGHTON, N.Y.- The Allegheny College men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over Houghton College Saturday (Feb. 9) in the opening game of their 2019 spring schedule.

The Gators got off to a quick 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles.Â
Colton Johnson Taylor and
Matt Andrus picked up an 832 win at first doubles against Louis-Guillaume Garcia and Jacob Fisler 8-2.Â
Wonjoon Cho and
Mackenzie Knowlton followed with an 8-2 victory over Zachary Shilvock and Dylan Scherer at second doubles.Â
Zach Anderson and
Cooper Miller swept the third doubles flight, 8-0
Cho picked up the fourth win for the Gators at second singles, defeating Shilvock by a score of 6-2, 6-1.Â

Andrus clinched the match for the Gators with a win at third singles against Fisler. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Andrus trailed 3-0 in the second set. However, Andrus bounced back to win the second set 6-4 to force a super tiebreaker. The tiebreaker was close, but Andrus managed to break Fisler and take it 13-11.

At fourth singles, Miller collected a 6-2, 6-1 win over Scherer. At sixth singles, Anderson matched his sweep of doubles by defeating Matthew Cicero 6-0 6-0.

Knowlton and Ethan Yung went to three sets at fifth singles. Yung won the opening set 6-4, before Knowlton bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second. In the tiebreaker, Knowlton was able to break to win the match 10-8.Â

The Gators are back in action on Feb. 22 as they face Division-II foe Mercyhurst University.
