SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Allegheny men's basketball team hung around for most of the game with No. 3 Wittenberg before dropping a 78-60 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contest on the road.
The Gators opened with a 7-2 run that covered the first 5:06, with
Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) scoring four points and
Brendon Urso (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) knocking down a three-pointer during the run. Allegheny led until 8:27 remained in the first half when a pair of Tigers' free throws gave the hosts the lead for good, however, the Gators trailed by just eight, 38-30, at intermission.
Allegheny got as close as three, 38-35, early in the second half by opening the period on a 5-0 run thanks to a layup by
Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) and triple from
Keeno Holmes (Pittsburgh, Pa./Lincoln Park), but Wittenberg was able to pull away after that.
Hinckley posted his second double-double of the year with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. He was joined in double figures by two other Gators as
Brian Roberts, Jr. (Copley, Ohio/Copley) added a season-high 12 points and
Jordan Rawls (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) added 10 points and eight rebounds to keep his streak of double-digit games going (now 23 games).
Allegheny (5-3, 0-2 NCAC) hosts its final nonconference game of the 2019-20 campaign when it welcomes Thiel to James H. Mullen, Jr. Arena at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
