MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's basketball team ended its 2019-20 nonconference slate with a 85-74 win against Waynesburg on Monday (Dec. 30).
With the victory, the Gators improve to 6-5, with a 4-5 mark in nonconference play for the second straight season.
The Gators scored the first three points of the game, and a back and forth battle evened the score at 24-24 at 7:38 in the second quarter. A free throw by
Zoe Youdell (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) gave the Gators a 25-24 lead, and Allegheny never looked back.
Rylee Donovan (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) led all scorers with a season-high 21 points, including a seven-of-eight clip from the charity stripe, while also pulling down six rebounds, blocking two shots, and tallying four assists.
Zoe Soilis (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) followed with 18 points on 8-of-14 from the floor and added two steals.
Jenna Manke (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) registered her first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
Julianna Skowron (Sewickley, Pa./Oakland Catholic) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points and six boards.
Chloe Rabold (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) posted three steals, a game-high, leading the Gators to a 9-5 advantage in takeaways.
Allegheny is back in action as it turn its focus to conference play with two road North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games this weekend. First up is DePauw on Saturday (Jan. 3) and Wittenberg on Sunday (Jan. 4) at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
