Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rawls goes for 30 and 20 in overtime thriller win over Geneva

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Senior Jordan Rawls (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) went off for 30 points and a career-high 20 rebounds to lead the Allegheny men's basketball team to an 84-79 overtime nonconference win versus Geneva.

Rawls finished the game 12-of-21 from the floor en route to his seventh career 30-point game (second this year). The 20 boards marked the most in the senior's stand out career, allowing him to post the 16th double-double of his time as a Gator. In 38 minutes of action, the 6-6 forward also handed out six assists (career high) and tallied four blocks and two steals.

Allegheny led by three at halftime, 39-36, but a three-pointer by Geneva with 0.6 second remaining in regulation erased the margin and forced overtime at 70-70. Rawls posted the first five points of the extra session before the Golden Tornadoes rattled off six to take a 76-75 lead as 2:15 was left. A triple by Brendon Urso (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) gave the Gators the lead back, 78-76, but was quickly answered by Geneva's Ethan Moose at 1:29 at the other end of the floor, 79-78. The Allegheny defense stepped up, as the final six points of the game were scored by the Blue & Gold. A pair of free throws each by Rawls and Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) and a layup by Nijon Kirkman (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) set the final margin.

Kirkman was second on the team in scoring, putting up a career-best 15 points on 7-of-10 from the floor. Greynolds was third at 12 points, including a trio of triples, plus six rebounds. Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) totaled seven points, four boards, five assists and two blocks.

In total, nine different Gators scored in the game, and Allegheny recorded 23 assists on 32 baskets. The hosts shot 45.1 percent (32-of-71) from the floor and held Geneva to just 34.9 percent (29-of-83).

The Gators, who improved to 5-1 overall this year, will open up the 2019-20 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) slate on Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they welcome Wooster to James H. Mullen, Jr. Arena for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
