MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's soccer team was dealt a 3-2 overtime loss by DePauw on Saturday (Oct. 26).
With 18 seconds remaining on the clock, a long cross from Jillian Snow found the head of Alex Berkley for the golden goal.
The Tigers took an early lead on the Gators in the eighth minute, but Allegheny was quickly able to find the tying score.
Shannon McGuinn (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) beaded a through ball exactly where it needed to be for senior
Taylor Renk (Cranberry Township, Pa./Oakland Catholic) to get a touch around the goalie and score at 11'.
Then in the 30th minute, Renk was able to draw a foul in the box that set up a penalty kick for the Gators, which
Emily Orr (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) planted to the goalie's left and gave Allegheny its first lead of the game.
This lead held until the 64th minute but Berkley was able to score her first goal of the contest on an assist from Shailli Kumar.
Despite the two goals allowed,
Maya Hackman (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) kept the Gators in the game with eight saves. Three of the saves came in overtime, including two in which Hackman was on the ground and somehow made a phenominal double save to keep the Tigers from scoring the winning goal.
McGuinn led the offense with three shots and an assist while Orr and Renk both took two shots and scored a goal in the match.
The Allegheny seniors,
Taylor Renk, Samatha Awe (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and Adele Gillman (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), alongside goalie
Maya Hackman, were recognized prior to the start of the game for senior day.
The Gators wrap up their regular season play with matches at Wooster (Oct. 29) and Wittenberg (Nov. 2) with start times set for 4:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m, respectfully.
