MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny and Wittenberg battled for 60 minutes, but a goal in the second quarter by the Tigers allowed the visitors to escape with a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) field hockey victory on the Blue Turf.
After dropping a 6-0 nonconference decision the first time the two teams competed in Springfield, Ohio on Sept. 21, the Gators held the Tigers to one goal in Meadville.
Kelsey Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) fired a pair of on-goal shots on the day to pace the offense, while
Faythe Schulte (Warwick, R.I./Rocky Hill) added the other shot for the home squad.Â
Emma Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and
Kierstin Faw (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) each recorded defensive saves in the game. Hallie Rieger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) suffered the loss, but made five saves in the first half.
Heather Amancio (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) steered away six saves in the second half, while stonewalling the Tigers for her 30-minute period.
Allegheny travels to Wooster for an NCAC match on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. before returning home for the final match of the season, a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, Nov. 2 where the Gators will celebrate Armed Forces Day on Blue & Gold Weekend.
