MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's soccer team defeated Hiram 1-0 in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup on Wednesday (Oct. 23).
The win moves the Gators to 6-3-4 with a 3-2 conference mark.
Allegheny controlled most of the first half, with the Gators outshooting the Terriers 12-3, but was unable to find the back of the net. Then in the 60th minute,
Shannon McGuinn (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) tallied the first goal of the game as she collected a pass from
Taylor Renk (Cranberry Township, Pa./Oakland Catholic) towards the top of the box and lifted it into the upper left side of the goal.
The Gators also held the advantage in corner kicks with eight compared to four for the Terriers.
Maya Hackman (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) earned the win in net as she made four saves.
Renk and McGuinn paced the offense with seven shots apiece, season best for both players. Keli Gaus (Fornbell, Pa./Riverside) was the other Gator with multiple shots, as she took two.
The Gators are back in action for their final home game of the 2019 regular season as they take on conference foe DePauw on Saturday (Oct. 23). Prior to the 3:00 match, Allegheny will be honoring its three seniors,
Adele Gilman (Potomac Md./Winston Churchill),
Samantha Awe (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and
Taylor Renk as well as goalie
Maya Hackman.
