MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny field hockey team added a tally to the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win column for the first time in program history by dealing Oberlin a 3-0 defeat on the Blue Turf.
Vivian Super (Granville, Ohio/Granville) opened the scoring of the match six minutes into the second quarter when she found the back of the cage off a feed from
Zoey Dudek (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), 1-0.
The Gators would strike twice in the second half to boost the margin, with
Faythe Schulte (Warwick, R.I./Rocky Hill) redirecting a drive by
Ramsay Smith (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) making it a 2-0 game 10 minutes into the third quarter and then Dudek finishing off a pass from
Kinsley Greenlaw (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) with 19 seconds to play in the same frame, 3-0.
For the match, the Gators dominated possession and held the Yeowomen without a shot, boasting a 27-0 advantage, while also taking nine penalty corners to the one of Oberlin. Schulte took more than half of the shots as she established the program's single-game record with 14, besting her previous top mark of nine on Sept. 29 versus Ferrum (Va.).
Hannah Sharp (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) recorded three shots and Dudek and Greenlaw each had two.
Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) earned her first career shutout by playing all 60 minutes. The rookie did not need to make a save with the defense not surrendering a shot.
The Gators, who picked up the second win of year one, will host NCAC foe Wittenberg at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 for the penultimate home match of the program's inaugural campaign.
