MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College women's tennis team split a pair of matches at the 2018 Nancy and Harvey Heath Invitational in Meadville Saturday (Sept. 22).
In their first match of the day, the Gators topped Baldwin Wallace University 5-4.
The Yellow Jackets picked up wins at first and second doubles to jump out to a 2-0 lead. However,
Hannah Schaffer and
Liz Evans won the third doubles flight via forfeit to cut the lead in half.
Baldwin Wallace also forfeited fifth and sixth singles to Schaffer and Evans, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets cut tied the match back up at three with a win at fourth singles.
Amanda Ress Liere gave the Gators a 4-3 lead with a first singles win. Against Imani Robinson, the junior swept the first set before taking the second set 6-3.
At second singles, Baldwin Wallace picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win to tie the overall match at four.
The match came down to the third singles match between
Savannah Gray and Becca Liebler. Lieber was able to break in the opening set to take it 6-4. However, Gray stormed back in set two, surrendering just one game to set up a tiebreaker for the whole match. The super tiebreaker was close, but Gray was able to break Liebler as she won 10-8 to seal the Gator victory.
In their second match of the day, the Gators fell 9-0 against Grove City College.
At first singles, Ress Liere fell to Morgan Happe 6-4, 6-. Maggie Manchester defeated
Miharu Koh 7-5, 6-1 at second singles.
Earlier in the afternoon, Grove City defeated Baldwin Wallace 8-1 to finish 2-0 in the round robin.
The Invitational concluded the fall portion of the Gator schedule. They are next in action Feb 9 at Houghton.
