Gators Split Matches at Bengal Challenge

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Allegheny College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Buffalo State Bengal Challenge on Saturday (Sept. 15).
 
The Gators opened the day with a 3-0 loss against the University of Rochester, but bounced back with a 3-1 win against Capital University.
 
University of Rochester 3, Allegheny 0 (25-23, 26-24, 27-25)
 
The Gators fell in a close match to an undefeated University of Rochester team in their first match of the day. 
 
Tamara Babic led the Gators with eight kills.  Elizabeth Debich added six while Grace Lengauer, Alysha Crowther and Rebecca MacQuarrie all had five.  Taylor Besch and Rachel Slotterback had two aces each.  Olivia D'Andrea had 15 assists. 
 
Slotterback, D'Andrea and Raelynn Dorscheid had 16 digs each. Besch contributed 15 while Lengauer had 12. 
 
Allie DeRubertis led the Yellow Jackets with 10 kills while Sara Apanavicius had 16 digs.
 
Allegheny 3, Capital University 1 (25-12, 16-25, 25-15, 25-19)
 
In their second match of the day, the Gators collected a 3-1 win against Capital University.
 
Lengauer led the Gators against the Crusaders with 14 kills, her second-best performance of the season.  Jyl Russotti added seven kills with five blocks (three solo, two assists).  Alysha Crowther finished with five kills while MacQuarrie and Debich had three apiece. D'Andrea had 18 assists while Slotterback had two aces. 
 
Slotterback and D'Andrea shared the team-high with 17 digs.  Lengauer added 12 while Besch also finished in double digits with 10.

Delanie Nahikian and Olivia Hale led the Crusaders with 11 kills apiece.  Hale also had a team-high 18 digs.
 
The Gators are back in action Tuesday (Sept. 18) as they travel down the road to Thiel College.
