MEADVILLE, PA.—The Allegheny College men's soccer team was unable to overcome an early Penn State Behrend goal as they fell in non-conference action 2-0 at home Saturday (Sept. 15).
The match marked the final game of a four-game homestand for the Gators.
The Lions got on the scoreboard in the 13
th minute when Dakota Lange crossed a ball right in front of the net, which was put away by Michael DiCola.
The Gators had a couple chances in the opening 45 minutes to score on free kicks just outside the box, but were unable to convert.
Penn State Behrend outshot the Gators 11-4 in the half, but
Nick Ferreira made four saves to keep the game at 1-0.
In the 58
th minute, the Lions increased their lead to 2-0 on a Dakota Lange goal from five yards out.
That goal proved to be the final of the match as the Lion defense held the Gator attack at bay throughout the match for the shutout.
Danny Reid and
Eddie Opalko had two shots apiece for the Gators.
In net, Ferreira made six saves.
Allegheny is back in action Monday (Sept. 17) on the road at 14
th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University.
