ERIE, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's tennis fell in a tight 5-4 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) battle against the College of Wooster Saturday (April 14) at Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie.
The Fighting Scots picked up wins at first and second doubles but the Gators picked up the win at third.
Mackenzie Knowlton and
Jacob Stringer faced Jorrit de Rouw and Craig Deng. The Gator duo was able to break Wooster en route to an 8-4 win.
Wooster picked up a win at first singles to push their lead to 3-1. At third singles,
Mike Siegel dominated the first set as he toppled Jesse DeWitt 6-1, 6-4 to cut the lead to 3-2.
After Siegel's win,
Cooper Miller tied the overall match with a win at fourth singles. After dropping the opening set 6-1, Miller broke in the second set to take it 6-4. Miller then won the suoerbreaker 10-6 for the win.
However, the Fighting Scots win the next two matches at second and fifth doubles to seal the win.
In the final match of the day, Stringer faced Andrew Long in the sixth flight. After a close 7-5 win in the first set, Stringer won the match with a 6-3 win in the second set.
The Gators return to action Wednesday (April 18) when they head to Grove City College for a nonconference game.
