MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's tennis team took a break from North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play to host Penn State Behrend in nonconference action Friday (April 13).
Allegheny collected the win 8-1.
The Gators started the match up 2-0 after Behrend forfeited third doubles and sixth singles.
The second doubles team of
Niall Kneerim and
Colton Johnson Taylor picked up the first win of the match as they defeated Noah Colvin and Michael Duckett 8-2.
The first doubles team of
Jai Redkar and
Cooper Miller trailed early against Yanique Apgar and Brendan Dollard. Down 3-2, the Gators broke to take a 4-3 lead. However, the Lions won five of the final six games to take it 8-5.
Miller picked up the first singles win for the Gators at the third flight. Miller faced Duckett, defeating him in a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
Redkar clinched the match at first singles. After winning the first set 6-2, his opponent Apgar retired to give Redkar the win.
Johnson Taylor was next off the court as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles over Dollard.
At fourth singles,
Mackenzie Knowlton picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Colvin.
Jacob Stringer concluded the match at fifth singles as he defeated Beldon Tuttle 6-1, 7-5.
The Gators return to NCAC action Saturday (April 14) as they host the College of Wooster at Pennbriar in Erie.
