Gators Close Spring Break With Win Over Union

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Thanks to a 2-1 start at doubles, the Allegheny men's tennis team closed out its spring break trip on a winning note with a tight 5-4 win over Union College.

The victory was the second straight for the Gators, who will return north with a 6-3 overall record.

The tandem of Jai Redkar and Cooper Miller earned Allegheny's first win of the day, topping the Union tandem of Austin and Max Egna by an 8-6 count, before Colton Johnson Taylor and Zach Anderson teamed up for an 8-5 win in the number-two spot.

In a tightly-contested third doubles match, Union's Justin Gold and Del Shunk escaped with a 9-7 victory over Jay Siegel and Niall Kneerim.

The Gators and Dutchmen split the six singles matches.  After Union briefly tied the match at 2-2 with a win at the number four singles spot, the Gators picked up the next two singles wins, with Johnson Taylor picking up a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the number two spot, and Jacob Stringer 6-4, 6-1 at number six.  Allegheny would then clinch the match with Redkar's 6-4, 6-4 victory at number one singles.

The Gators will look to carry on their momentum when they return to Pennsylvania, as they are slated to host Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday, March 27 at the Robertson Athletic Complex.
