Quick Start Pushes Carnegie Mellon Past Allegheny

PITTSBURGH, Pa.— The Allegheny College women's basketball team could not overcome a quick start from Carnegie Mellon University as they fell in non-conference play Saturday (Dec. 8) on the road.

The Tartans scored the first six points of the game, but the Gators worked their way back, making it 12-8 four minutes in.  However, the Tartans closed the quarter on an 18-3 run to take a 30-11 lead into the second.

The momentum carried over to the second half, as their lead grew to as much as 33.  Delaney Arbore and Rylee Donovan hit three-pointers late in the half to cut the deficit to 51-24 at the break.

Julianna Skowron led the Gators in the opening half with 11 points and four rebounds.  Arbore added eight points while Donovan had four assists.

In the third quarter, the Tartans continued to press the Gators, not letting their lead slip below 27.  A late free-throw gave Carnegie a 72-42 lead heading into the final frame.

The Tartan lead grew to 33 early in the fourth, but a Rylie Campbell basket, followed by a Brooke Smith three-pointer brought the game to 81-54 midway through the frame.  However, the Tartans limited the Gators to just two more points in the game as they picked up the 93-56 win.

Arbore led the Gators with 15 points to go with three rebounds. Skowron was just short of a double-double, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Donovan tallied eight points, four assists and three steals.  Kaylah Pinkney added four points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.  Smith finished with eight points off the bench.

Leah Weslock led Carnegie Mellon with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Gators continue non-conference play at Bethany College Monday (Dec. 10).
