Gators Defeat Wooster 79-69 in NCAC Action

WOOSTER, Ohio— The Allegheny College women's basketball team picked up a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory as they defeated the College of Wooster 79-69 on the road Wednesday (Dec. 5).

The teams were even early on until the Fighting Scots took a 14-8 lead.  Delaney Arbore hit a pair of threes to tie the game at 14 midway through the opening quarter.  The teams continued to match each other's baskets for the remainder of the quarter as Wooster took a 26-25 lead into the second.

Wooster struck first in the second quarter, but a Zoe Soilis corner three tied the game at 28.  However, the Fighting Scots went on a 5-0 run to take a 33-28 lead.  That lead eventually grew to 42-33 with three-and-a-half minutes to go.  The Gators cut it to four, but a late basket gave Wooster a 44-38 halftime lead.

Arbore led the Gators with 13 points and three assists in the opening half.  Julianna Skowron had eight points and seven rebounds.  Rylee Donovan had four points, six rebounds and four assists.  The Gators shot 46.9% (15-of-32) from the floor in the half.

Donovan scored five straight points to open the second half, bringing the lead down to one.  Once again, the Fighting Scots answered with a run as they took their lead up to seven, 55-47, midway through the third.  The Gators fought back, and tied the game at 58 on a traditional three-point play by Donovan.  After Donovan drew a charge, Skowron put the Gators in front 60-58 on an easy basket.  Donovan hit a three late in the quarter as the Gators took a 63-58 lead into the fourth.

The Fighting Scots cut the lead to 63-61 early in the fourth, but a 6-0 Gator run pushed the lead up to 69-61, leading to a Fighting Scot timeout with 5:32 to play.  Minutes later, a Kaylah Pinkney three made it a 10-point game in favor of the Gators, 72-62.

Following a second timeout, the Fighting Scots scored five straight points to cut the lead in half.  Pinkney responded with a three with under a minute to play to make it 77-69.  Down the stretch, the Gators added a pair of free-throws as they secured a 79=69 conference win.

Donovan led the way for the Gators with 21 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks.  The game marked her fourth double-double of the season.  Arbore also finished with 21 points to go with five rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Skowron totaled her third double-double of the year as she finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.  Pinkney was the fourth Gator in double digits as she had 14 points, four rebounds and two blocks.
