#15 Wooster Pushes Past Gators

WOOSTER, Ohio—The Allegheny College men's basketball team fell on the road to 15th-ranked College of Wooster 101-84 Wednesday (Dec. 5) in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play.

The Gators jumped out to 13-9 lead in the opening five minutes, with nine of those points coming from Brian Roberts, Jr.  The Fighting Scots came back, going on a 14-3 run to take a 23-15 lead.  The Gators scored the next four points, coming from Roberts, Jr. and Caden Hinckley, to cut the lead in half.  After a Wooster basket, a Roberts, Jr. three brought the lead to three, 25-22.  However, the Fighting Scots would once again answer with a big run as their lead grew to 12 at 39-27 with five minutes to play in the half.  The Gators brought the lead to five twice down the stretch, but they entered halftime trailing by nine, 51-42.

Roberts, Jr. finished the half with 16 points, hitting three three-pointers.  Hinckley scored 10 points off the bench, going four-of-six from the field.  The Gators shot 50% from the field (16-of-32), hitting five-of-nine three-pointers.

The Gators got off to a fast start in the second half as four points from Jordan Rawls and a pair by Lamar Todd cut the lead to 51-48.  However, Wooster was able to recover from the Gators run as they pushed their advantage to 77-62 midway through the half.

The Wooster lead would grow to as much as 24 in the final ten minutes.  The Gators cut into the deficit late but it was not enough to overcome the 15th-ranked Fighting Scots as they fell 101-84.

Rawls led the Gators with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists.  Roberts, Jr. finished with a season-high 19 points.  Hinckley went for 14 points and five rebounds.  Billy Urso was the fourth Gator to score in double-digits with 11 points.  Todd tallied seven points and six rebounds.

The Gators shot 43.5% (30-of-69) from the field for the contest, hitting nine-of-20 three-pointers.  Of the Gators 84 points, 38 came in the paint and 12 off fast breaks.  The Gators made the most of the Fighting Scots 11 turnovers, scoring 22 points off of them.

The Fighting Scots were led by Danyon Hempy, who scored 25 points.

The Gators are back at home Saturday (Dec. 8) when they play host to 7th-ranked Wittenberg University.
