Home Finale Spoiled By Wooster

MEADVILLE, Pa. – North Coast Athletic Conference leader Wooster topped the Gators 3-0 to spoil Allegheny's 2018 home finale on a frigid night under the lights at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

Erica White scored twice and added an assist to pace Wooster (10-3-2, 6-2), which limited Allegheny (6-9-2. 1-4-2) to seven shots, and just one on goal.

White looked to get the Fighting Scots on the board early when she burst through the back line on a breakaway, but Gator goalkeeper Maya Hackman charged out to knock it away as it left White's foot to keep the game scoreless.

The Gators quickly countered, racking a pair of shots and a corner kick over the next three minutes, but were unable to take advantage. The two teams would then trade possession in the middle third of the field for a span of 20 minutes, until the Fighting Scots finally broke the scoreless tie.

With 21:11 left in the half, Mila Zunich sent a pass from White toward the goal. The ball took a fortuitous bounce off of a Gator defender and caromed into the net to put the Fighting Scots up 1-0.

Moments after Zunich's goal, Hackman made another save off of a blast from White, before play would again tighten up. The two teams would each rack a pair of shots over the final 18 minutes of the half, but none would find pay dirt, allowing Wooster to take the one-goal lead into the intermission.

The Fighting Scots enjoyed a 9-3 advantage in shots over the opening half, while each team was granted two corner kicks apiece.

The Gators' Taylor Renk had the first shot of the second half, but her attempt from just outside the box was blocked by the defense in the 43rd minute.

In the 56th minute, White scored her first goal of the evening with a turning blast through traffic from just inside 20 yards out.  Just over three minutes later, the Gators were whistled for an infraction inside the goal box, and White would then convert on the penalty kick to put the visitors in front 3-0.

Moments after the penalty kick, Wooster threatened to make it a 4-0 game, but Hackman made a fully extended diving save to keep the ball out of the upper corner of the net.

Wooster's defense would cede just two Allegheny shots over the final 20 minutes of play to thwart any potential Gator rally and leave Meadville with the conference victory.

Hackman started in goal and made three saves over the first 79 minutes of action, before giving way to Kaitlynn Rees, who saved the only shot she faced over the final 11 minutes. Maddy Ireton and Molly Hutter each played 45 minutes in goal for the Fighting Scots for the combined shutout, with Hutter posting her team's only save.

The Gators will now look to end the season on a high note when they close out the campaign on Sat. Oct. 27 with a 1 p.m. bout at Kenyon College.
