DELAWARE, Ohio—The Allegheny College volleyball team fell in both ends of a tri-match hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday (Oct. 20).
The Gators played host Ohio Wesleyan as well as Case Western Reserve University.
Ohio Wesleyan 3, Allegheny 0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-19)
In their first match of the day, the Gators fell in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play to Ohio Wesleyan.
In the opening set, the Battling Bishops jumped out to a 6-2 lead. The Gators brought the lead down to 9-6 as the teams continued to trade points. Leading 13-10, the Battling Bishops went on a 5-1 run to gain control of the set. That run led to a 25-16 set win for Ohio Wesleyan.
In the second set, the Gators gained the early advantage, 10-8. However, the Battling Bishops put together a 7-0 run to take the lead, 15-10. Similar to the first set, that run once again proved to be too much for the Gators as Ohio Wesleyan picked up the set 25-16.
The Gators had the early advantage in the third set, taking a 6-2 lead. Ohio Wesleyan battled back, tying the set at nine. Tied at 12 all, the Gators went on 3-0 run to regain the lead. However, the Battling Bishops went on an 11-1 run to take control. The Gators brought the game within five points at 24-19, but the Battling Bishops closed out the match with a kill.
Alysha Crowther led the Gators offense with eight kills.
Grace Lengauer had five kills while
Rebecca MacQuarrie and
Jyl Russotti had four apiece.
Olivia D'Andrea had 13 assists.
Rachel Slotterback led the Gator backline with 10 digs.
Raelynn Dorscheid had nine digs. Crowther and
Meghan Uht had four blocks apiece.
The Battling Bishops were led by Paige Hale's 17 kills and Megan Schwallie's 16 digs.
Case Western Reserve 3, Allegheny 0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-14)
In their second set of the game, the Gators fell to Case Western Reserve in straight sets.
Lengauer led the Gators with five kills.
Tamara Babic and Crowther had four kills apiece. D'Andrea had 10 assists while
Eden Merkle served a pair of aces.
Babic also added eight digs. MacQuarrie and Slotterback each had six digs.
Jiayi Shen led the Spartans with 11 kills while Hayley Sims had a dozen digs.
The Gators close out the regular season at home Wednesday (Oct. 24) when they play host to NCAC foe Oberlin College.
