HIRAM, Ohio— The Allegheny College volleyball team was unable to overcome North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe Hiram College as they fell on the road to the Terriers in straight sets Tuesday (Oct. 16).
The Terriers won the sets 25-15, 25-14 and 25-15.
Hiram got out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set. The Gators brought the score to 6-4 before Hiram regained control. Leading 10-7, Hiram went on a 5-0 run to gain an eight point lead. The Gators made up some ground in the set before ultimately falling 25-15.
The teams exchanged 5-0 runs to open the second set. The set remained even at 10, but the Terriers chained together a 14-1 run to take the set 25-14.
The Terrier momentum carried over to the third set as they jumped out to an 11-2 lead. The Gators pushed back but were unable to overcome that run, as Hiram won the match with a 25-15 win.
Grace Lengauer led the Gators with nine kills.
Tamara Babic had six kills while
Rebecca MacQuarrie and Alsya Crowther had three apiece.
Raelynn Dorscheid had a pair of aces.
Olivia D'Andrea led the setters with 16 assists.
Rachel Slotterback led the Gator backline with 12 digs. MacQuarrie was also in double digits with 10.
Kate Christie added seven digs.
Hiram was led by Kayla Cole's 17 kills and Lindsey Walker's 13 digs. Holly Hoffman had five aces.
The Gators are back in action Saturday (Oct. 20) as they head to Ohio Wesleyan University for a tri-match against the Battling Bishops and Case Western Reserve University.
