MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny and Oberlin women's soccer teams tied 1-1 in a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup under the lights at a chilly Frank B. Fuhrer Field.
Both goals came in an 18-minute span in the second half, with Allegheny (6-8-1, 1-3-1 NCAC)
Taylor Renk scoring her third of the season in the 55th minute, before the Yeowomen (5-8-3, 2-3-1) tied the game on a goal from Sydnie Savarese with just over 15 minutes left in the second frame. While both teams had chances over the remainder of the second half and overtime, neither would score, and the two conference rivals were forced to settle for a draw.
The Yeowomen finished the night with a 19-12 edge in shots, with Allegheny keeper
Maya Hackman finishing with nine saves for the match, including three in the two extra sessions.
The opening stages of the first half were heavy on defense, with each team taking just one shot and one corner kick apiece in the first 21 minutes of play. Renk had Allegheny's first chance, as she tracked down a bouncing ball in the middle of the field following
Emily Orr's corner kick and attempted to chip it in from 15 yards out, only to be saved by Oberlin keeper Jordyn Morris.
Oberlin had the better of play in the final 10 minutes of the half, out-shooting the Gators 4-1 over the span. Hackman had a pair of saves down the stretch in the opening stanza, with the Yeowomen's best scoring chance coming with four minutes left. Following a corner, Savarese had a shot blocked in front, but scrambled to gather the rebound and direct it to goal. Hackman would quickly dive on the rebound attempt to keep the game scoreless heading into the intermission.
The Yeowomen out-shot Allegheny 6-2 over the first half, with each team putting two shots on goal.
The momentum turned the way of Allegheny early in the second half. In the 52nd minute,
Alex Klare's redirect of a corner kick from Orr was snared by Morris. The Yeowomen were unable to

completely clear the zone, and the Gators would again go on the attack.
Isabella Martinez controlled the ball near the far sideline, and sent a pass forward to space. Renk caught up to it after breaking through the Oberlin back line, and put the shot past a diving Morris and into the cage to give Allegheny the 1-0 lead.
After a pair of Oberlin attempts went wide, the Gators looked primed for an insurance goal with 28 minutes left in regulation, but
Alex Klare's long blast clanged off the crossbar. Nine minutes later, another attempt by Klare off of a long free kick went just wide, and the score remained 1-0.
With 17 minutes to go, Hackman made her first save of the second half when she pounced on a rolling shot from the doorstep. Less than a minute later, however, the Yeowomen found the scoreboard when Maddi Kimball lofted a high pass from the sideline toward the goal, and after a bounce, it met the head of Savarese, who directed it past Hackman to tie the game at 1-1.
Savarese's goal invigorated the Yeowomen, who were granted three corner kicks and out-shot the Gators 7-0 over the final 12 minutes of regulation. Allegheny's defense held firm, led by Hackman, who made three saves in the final five minutes, including a diving stop off of a deflected corner kick with 5:30 left, and a sliding save with 2:27 to go on a blast from Savarese.
Three minutes into the extra session, Hackman produced her seventh save of the night with another diving stop to punch away a close Oberlin attempt. On their ensuing attack, Orr's shot from 10 yards out was snared by Morris, before Hackman preserved the tie after catching a shot in her chest with 1:10 left resulting from another Yeowomen corner on the final scoring chance from either team in the first overtime.
In the second extra stanza, the Gators out-shot the Yeowomen 3-2, but were unable to net a golden goal. Morris made a pair of saves for Oberlin off of free kicks from less than 25 yards out, while Hackman stopped Oberlin's final shot of the night in the 98th minute to preserve the tie.
The Oberlin match was the first of three straight home contests for Allegheny, which improved to 5-1-1 in the friendly confines of Frank B. Fuhrer Field with the draw. The Gators will be back at home on Sat. Oct. 20, with a noon Senior Day date with NCAC rival Wittenberg. Prior to the game, Martinez and senior teammate
Hannah Smith will be recognized for their four-year careers in the blue and gold.
