Gators Sweep Pitt-Bradford

MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College volleyball team utilized fast starts to sweep Pitt-Bradford 3-0 in Meadville Wednesday (Sept. 20).
 
Allegheny picked up the sets 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20.
 
The Gators got off to a fast start, as Terra Schall served them to a 7-0 lead, forcing a Pitt-Bradford timeout.  Following the timeout, the Gators won three more points before the Panthers got on the board.  The Gator lead proved too much for Pitt-Bradford to overcome as they cruised to a 25-14 set win.
 
The Panthers and Gators traded points early on in the second half.  Allegheny slowly start to pull ahead, going on a 5-1 run to take a 13-8 lead.    Once again, the lead for the Gators proved too much for Pitt-Bradford as they were only able to pull within five as Allegheny took the set 25-17.
 
Similar to the opening set, the Gators took an early lead, 5-1.  The Panthers called a timeout to try to derail the Gator momentum, and went on a 3-1 run following it to put the game at 6-4. The teams continued to trade points until a 3-0 run form the Gators gave them a 12-6 lead.  The Panthers chipped away at the Allegheny advantage, bringing the game within four points at 22-18.  The Gators called a timeout to regain their footing, and did so, winning three of the final five points for a 25-20 win.
 
Offensively, Leah Franzluebbers led the Gators with 12 kills, hitting .357.  She also had a pair of solo blocks. Meghan Uht and Elizabeth Debich had six kills apiece while Hannah Cubarney had five.  Justine Kelly assisted on 25 points.  Terra Schall led the Gators with three aces, including two on their opening run. 
 
Defensively, Kylee Karczewski led the Gators with 17 digs.  Schall was also in double-digits, finishing with 13.  Rachel Slotterback had nine digs while Rebecca MacQuarrie had eight. 
 
The Gators are back in action Saturday (Sept. 23) as they open North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) on the road at Kenyon.
