MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's soccer team opened the home portion of their 2017 schedule against 21
st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University Monday (Sept. 18).
The Tartans picked up the win over the Gators 4-0.
The Gators earned a chance early on but
Tolossa Hassan's shot just missed the outside post. Following a Gator corner kick, the Tartans put a shot on net off a free kick but it went right into the hands of
David Stekla.
In the eighth minute, the Tartans earned a penalty kick. Jimmy Jameson converted the opportunity for the first goal of the contest.
In the 20
th minute, the Tartans increased their lead to 2-0 as Phillip Petrakian found Anthony Gulli over the top.
The Tartans added a third goal in the 38
th minute of the foot of Cooper Tubiana to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Jack Painter scored an unassisted goal to make it 4-0.
The Gators had chances in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Hassan led the Gators with two shots. The Tartans owned a 19-5 advantage in the shot department and an 8-6 advantage on corner kicks.
The Gators are back in action Saturday (Sept. 23) as they open North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play at home against Denison University at 2 p.m.
