ERIE, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's soccer fell in a nonconference tilt to Penn State- Behrend 2-0 Saturday (Sept. 16) in Erie.
The Lions earned the first opportunity at cracking the scoreboard in the 10
th minute by
Cory Wiard made a save to keep the game scoreless. Nine minutes later,
Tolossa Hassan put a shot on net for the Gators but Matt Warnaka made the save.
Three minute later,
Izaak Miller had a shot that nearly went in, striking the post. Miller's shot proved to be the last threat from either side in the opening half as the game remained scoreless at the half.
Early in the second half,
Danny Reid put a shot on net for the Gators but once again, Warnaka made the save. The defensive stop led to a counter attack from the Lions which they translated to a goal by Matt Dziadosz, assisted by Aaron Harris, in the 48
th minute. In the 73
rd minute, the Lions increased their lead to two off Dziadosz's second goal of the contest.
In the final five minutes of the game, the Gators applied pressure to the Lions defense with multiple shots but were unable to find the back of the net as they fell 2-0.
The Lions held the advantage in the shot department 14-9 but both teams put three shots on net. The Gators held a slight edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
Miller led the Gator offense with three shots while Hassan and
Adam Mascio had two apiece.
The Gators make their 2017 home debut Monday (Sept. 18) as they play host to 21
st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University.
